HR Dr. Robert Fucik

Former Judge, Lecturer

HR Dr. Robert Fucik was born in 1959 in Vienna, where he also completed his secondary education and, in 1982, earned his doctoral degree in law. After completing his judicial year and preparatory service, he was appointed judge on January 1, 1987. Until 1998, he served at the Regional Court of Korneuburg in nearly all areas of the judiciary.

Following an assignment at the Federal Ministry of Justice to assist with the out-of-court dispute reform, he was a judge at the Vienna Higher Regional Court from 1999 to 2005. From late 2005 until November 2023, he headed Department I 10 (focusing on international civil procedure, child abductions, international maintenance, and adoptions) at the Federal Ministry of Justice and continued to serve as a subject-matter expert after a reorganization until his retirement in July 2024.

He has been involved in training court clerks and continues to contribute to the education and professional development of judges, lawyers, and other legal professionals. He teaches civil procedure law at universities in Vienna, Linz, and previously in Graz. He is co-editor-in-chief of iFamZ and editor of the ÖJZ. His main academic interests are civil procedure law, tort law, and family law.
